While the reservoir is, first and foremost, a key piece of the region’s drinking water supply, its 9,000-year history and rugged landscape make it a destination for outdoor activity year-round. During the reservoir’s construction, which was completed in 2012, several cultural and archeological artifacts were discovered, making the protection of several sensitive areas a top priority while planning recreation activities. Rueter-Hess Recreation Advisory Board (RAB)
The RAB is a six-member regional collaboration charged with planning recreation activities at the reservoir. The Authority includes Parker Water & Sanitation District, the Town of Castle Rock, the Town of Parker, the City of Castle Pines, the City of Lone Tree, and Douglas County.
