2050 Transportation Plan

Douglas County government has now completed the 2050 Transportation Plan. Using input from community members and local stakeholders, this plan was developed by using a multi-modal transportation strategy that guides investment of public funds in the transportation system. An effective transportation system provides better mobility and safety for all users and modes of travel while making sustainable infrastructure investments.

What does the plan do?

  • Set goals for the future of transportation
  • Identify transportation needs based on these goals
  • Develop actions and projects to address these needs
  • Prioritize projects
  • Identify funding strategies and an implementation plan

Over the past year, we’ve been working with residents, community groups and local leaders to shape the 2050 Douglas County Transportation Plan. This plan lays out a vision for how we’ll invest in roads, trails, transit and other transportation improvements over the next 25 years.

What’s in the Plan

  • Projects to enhance safety and reduce severe crashes
  • Expanding multimodal options like trails, bike infrastructure and transit
  • Improving roadway maintenance and connectivity
  • Strategies to support older adults and people without access to a car
  • Preparing for future growth and emergencies

Meet our mascot, Little Doug

Douglas County is making historical investments in our transportation infrastructure as part of our 2050 Transportation Plan. As part of our efforts to help the public understand and recognize the impacts of the 2050 transportation plan, we are thrilled to introduce the newest member of the Public Works team, Little Doug.

Cartton character of construction worker holding a slow sign at a crosswalkWho is Little Doug?

Doug is our new Public Works mascot and a cheerful face for progress in the county. From bridge reinforcement to new stretches of road, Doug represents the link between the “nuisance” of construction and the long-term quality of life promised in the 2050 Transportation Plan. His mission is simple: to represent transportation safety, stewardship and education in Douglas County.
