Project Update

As part of an ongoing effort to provide broadband internet access, two new separate utility companies — Google (GFiber) and BAM Broadband — will be installing new fiber optic networks in Highlands Ranch through spring 2027. CenturyLink/Lumen and Comcast, who already have networks within Highlands Ranch, are also working to upgrade their own existing fiber optic networks.

Douglas County is not responsible for these construction projects. However, the County has established a centralized fiber information line to help residents navigate questions or concerns related to work occurring in their neighborhoods. This resource is designed to ensure residents can quickly reach the correct utility company responsible for construction, repairs or maintenance in their area.

Description

Several utility companies — CenturyLink/Lumen, Comcast, Google and BAM Broadband — are independently installing new or upgrading existing fiber optic networks throughout Highlands Ranch as part of broader broadband expansion efforts. Construction associated with these projects is expected to continue through spring 2027.

While Douglas County is not responsible for these installations, the County has established a fiber information hotline and email to help residents identify the correct utility provider when questions or concerns arise regarding construction, repair or maintenance activities. These include:

  • Connecting residents with the correct utility company contact when they have questions about fiber construction, repairs or maintenance occurring in their area.
  • Addressing communication gaps when residents are unable to obtain information directly from the providers, ensuring the public has access to the most current and accurate information available.

Construction Impacts

Permitted fiber activities are generally allowed between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. No weekend work is typically allowed.

Impacts for this work will vary based on which utility company is working in your area. Activities and impacts may include, but are not limited to:

  • Marking neighborhoods to locate underground utilities. Do not move or remove the flags placed on your property.
  • Burying the fiber network lines between the roadway and sidewalk curbs, in front yards and backyards, or under roadways.
  • Performing quality control walks.
  • Completing inspection with the County Erosion Control Inspector.

Ahead of this work, the appropriate utility company will notify you of when construction will start. This notification may be in the form of direct mail, door tags, emails, in-person visits, or coordination with HOA property managers.
