By order of Sheriff Darren Weekly, Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in place for unincorporated areas of Douglas County. Ordinance No. O-012-004 restricts open burning, the use of fireworks, portable fireplaces/fire pits and campfires in the unincorporated areas of Douglas County.

If you visit Douglas County’s website after April 17, you may notice something new in the address bar — but the change represents far more than just a different web address. It marks a step forward in security, trust, and how the County serves its community in an increasingly digital world.
Unlike other domains, .gov is reserved for verified government entities and regulated by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), helping ensure residents can trust they’re accessing official County information while adding protection against phishing and fraudulent sites.
“With the rise of phishing attempts and misleading websites impersonating government agencies, moving to a .gov domain makes it easier for residents to know they’re accessing official Douglas County information and services,” said Commissioner George Teal. “Because .gov domains are strictly regulated and offer enhanced security protections, this transition significantly reduces the risk of bad actors impersonating government websites and reinforces our commitment to maintaining public trust.”
The transition will also include County email addresses, further improve secure communication and reduce the risk of impersonation.
Residents don’t need to take any action—existing bookmarks, links, and email addresses will continue to work through automatic redirects.
