With the support of Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, Douglas County is working to advance critical transportation and water infrastructure projects.
Each year, local governments may apply for federal funding through their Congressional representatives. This year, Douglas County worked closely with Congresswoman Boebert’s office to advocate for investments that will improve safety, mobility, and long-term sustainability across the region.
“These projects reflect years of planning and collaboration to meet the needs of our communities,” said Commissioner and Board Chair George Teal. “We are incredibly grateful to Congresswoman Boebert for her leadership and support in championing these requests at the federal level. Her advocacy helps ensure Douglas County residents continue to benefit from safe, reliable infrastructure.”
“Douglas County is leading by example with smart, strategic infrastructure investments that directly benefit families, businesses, and the long-term strength of our communities,” said Congresswoman Lauren Boebert. “I am proud to submit these local funding requests and partner with the County to advance projects that increase safety, reduce congestion, improve our roads and bridges, and strengthen critical water resources. These investments will deliver meaningful benefits across the region, including improvements to the Quebec Street and C-470 interchange serving Highlands Ranch and carrying more than 3 million vehicles annually; the Sedalia-Meadows Parkway expansion supporting Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, and surrounding communities; upgrades to the I-25 and Happy Canyon interchange improving safety and access for Castle Pines; and the Sedalia Wastewater Collection Line strengthening water infrastructure and supporting a new sewer system in Sedalia. These are commonsense investments that will help ensure Douglas County continues to grow, thrive, and remain a great place to live and work.”
Quebec Street and C-470 Interchange Improvements
Requested funding: $3 million
This project will improve the interchange at Quebec Street and C-470, a heavily traveled corridor carrying more than 3 million vehicles annually. Planned upgrades include dual right-turn improvements and the addition of an auxiliary right-turn lane to the ramp from Quebec Street to increase capacity and reduce congestion.
The interchange serves as a critical connection for residents of Highlands Ranch to the greater Denver metro area.
“Smart transportation investments like this are essential to keeping our economy moving,” said Commissioner Kevin Van Winkle. “We appreciate Congresswoman Boebert’s commitment to supporting infrastructure improvements that reduce congestion and increase safety for our residents.”
Sedalia-Meadows Parkway Expansion
Requested funding: $2.4 million
This project represents the next phase of improvements along the U.S. Highway 85 corridor, focusing on right-of-way acquisitions needed to widen and reconstruct the final segment between Sedalia and Meadows Parkway, known as the US 85 Gap.
As part of the National Highway System and a strategic route for national defense, Highway 85 is vital to regional and national transportation. It also serves as a key alternate route when incidents impact I-25 and is utilized by hundreds of thousands of tourists annually as a corridor into the mountains.
Over the past 24 years, Douglas County has invested more than $150 million in improving this roadway; Sedalia to Meadows Parkway is the final remaining segment to require major upgrades.
Sedalia Wastewater Collection Line Construction
Requested funding: $4.5 million
In partnership with Castle Rock Water, this project includes both the design and construction of approximately 4,854 linear feet of wastewater collection line, serving as the first phase of a new sewer system for Sedalia.
Currently, residents rely on individual septic systems, which can pose risks to water quality. This project will connect homes, schools, and businesses to new regional infrastructure, including a lift station and force main, expected to be completed by 2027.
“It has been a top priority of the Board of County Commissioners to invest in reliable water infrastructure to plan for our future,” said Commissioner Abe Laydon. “We’re thankful to Congresswoman Boebert for recognizing the importance of water in the west and helping move this long-needed project forward for the Sedalia community.”
I-25 and Happy Canyon Interchange Improvements
Requested funding: $3 million
This project will reconstruct the I-25 and Happy Canyon interchange, addressing safety concerns, structural deficiencies, and capacity limitations of the existing 1960s-era bridge.
With continued growth in Douglas County, this interchange has become a key transportation priority. Improvements will enhance safety, reduce congestion, and support future mobility needs for both the City of Castle Pines and the surrounding region.
Through strong partnerships with federal, state, and local leaders, including Congresswoman Boebert, Douglas County continues to advocate for the resources needed to deliver critical improvements for residents today and into the future. Learn more about the Board’s advocacy on our webpage.
